‘Virat Kohli’s best is yet to come’ – Former Pakistan opener compares Virat Kohli to Sri Lanka legend ahead of BGT 2023
Star India batter Virat Kohli had an outstanding comeback to form at the Asia Cup last year when he broke the century duck by hammering an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan. Since then, Kohli has scored three more tons in ODIs. And he will look to continue the form in the game’s longest format.
In the team’s most recent Test series against Bangladesh, the former India skipper had a bad outing. But since that time, Kohli has hammered centuries against Sri Lanka and New Zealand and is on a roll with the bat.
Salman Butt, a former Pakistan player, recently said something pretty bizarre about the 34-year-old batter as Kohli prepares for India’s return to the longest format of the game on February 9 (Border-Gavaskar Trophy). Butt compared Kohli to the illustrious former batter of Sri Lanka, Kumar Sangakkara, and said that Kohli has yet to play to his “best.”
Smart players choose their format and focus on that: Salman Butt
“Virat Kohli’s best is yet to come. He has become fluent but is not back in full flow. He had golden years in which he was unstoppable. When you look at Kumar Sangakkara’s career, the way he played toward the end of it was just amazing. He didn’t play in the same fashion when he was young,” Butt said in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel.
When discussing the batter’s workload management, Butt asserted that Kohli is the most knowledgeable about himself.
“In modern-day cricket, the excessive amount of international cricket takes a toll on a player. Smart players choose their format and focus on that. Once that happens, they can continue their class. So it’s up to Kohli when it comes to deciding on his future. But I feel his best will come again,” stated the 38-year-old.
Virat Kohli is crucial for India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final, which will be held in June this year. Earlier this week, the Australian squad travelled to India for the four-match series that gets underway on February 9.
