‘Pura Bharat yahi chahta h’ – Fans react as Virender Sehwag backs Virat Kohli to smash tons of century to finish ODI World Cup 2023 as leading run-scorer

Team India is all set to lock horns against the Netherlands on October 3 before taking on Australia on October 8 in Chennai to begin their journey to the ODI World Cup 2023. Notably, the Men in Blue are entering as the favourites to win the ODI World Cup 2023, owing to some memorable performances in recent games. However, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag feels India’s stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma deserve to win the ODI World Cup 2023.

The well-renowned cricket commentator opened up about how India’s skipper Rohit Sharma missed out on the 2011 ODI World Cup. In addition, the former opening batter says that later he became the king of the ODIs, as the 36-year-old skipper was the leading run scorer in the 2019 ODI World Cup owing to his back-to-back five centuries that guided Virat Kohli’s India side to seal the semi-final spot.

“These two senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later he became the Badshah of ODIs, he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player,” Virender Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

I hope Virat Kohli ends up as the leading run-scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023: Virender Sehwag

Meanwhile, the 2011 World Cup-winning star also backed India’s stalwart Virat Kohli to become the leading run scorer in the ODI World Cup 2023. The 44-year-old cricketer says that former India skipper Virat Kohli didn’t score a century in the last ODI World Cup. Moreover, the cricketer analyst wants India to lift the ODI World Cup 2023, and the team should get Virat Kohli on their shoulder and get a round of the stadium, as he did for Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar in the 2011 ODI World Cup.

“Chiku (Kohli’s nickname) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup, this year I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground,” he added further.
