‘I think comparisons are too early…’ – Former India cricketer makes bold call on Yashasvi Jaiswal getting compared to cricketing legends

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag heaps praise on star opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal but says that he should not be compared to some of the legends as of now. Notably, Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently playing the third Test match between India and England. The left-handed batter recently hammered the double century in the second Test match and guided India to win the game in Vizag to level up the series by 1-1.

However, Virender Sehwag feels that comparisons are made quite early. The former opening batter also talks about players getting injured ahead of the T20 World Cup in 2024. In addition, the well-renowned cricket commentator feels that players will be getting the chance to stay fit as only 14 matches are scheduled to play in the next two months during the IPL 2024.

“He [Yashasvi Jaiswal] is a very good batsman but I think comparisons are too early. I am confident that fatigue or burnout will not be a concern for players heading into the T20 World Cup. On the contrary, I feel that tournaments like IPL or ILT20 will prove instrumental in preparing teams for the global event. In IPL, one has to play 14 matches over two months, so there is ample time to maintain form and fitness and fine-tune skills ahead of the T20 World Cup,” Virender Sehwag said.

It is essential for players to prioritize national duty above club commitments: Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag feels that players should prioritise the national team over any league. Moreover, the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning star cities are an example of how West Indies players focused on the Test and T20I series against Australia over playing in the ILT20.

“I firmly believe that representing a country should always take precedence over participating in any league. It is essential for players to prioritize national duty above club commitments. A prime example of this dedication was evident in the ILT20, where several West Indies players chose to leave the league temporarily to represent their nation in international fixtures in Australia,” he added further.
