Wasim Akram advocates Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s inclusion in T20I set-up

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the last 15 years have been the batting legends in the Indian Cricket Team. Both the players were key reason for India reaching the ODI World Cup 2023 final recently. Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has asked both the Indian veteran batters to be included in the T20I set up.

Reports recently suggested that Rohit Sharma has told the Indian selectors not to consider him for T20I format. Virat Kohli on the other hand has been given freedom to choose if he wants to continue in the shortest format of the game for team India.

India has just started playing Australia in a five-match T20I series. Suryakumar Yadav and Co. won the first game on Thursday. The second game is to be played on Sunday at the Greenfield Stadium in Kerala.

Former Pakistani legend Wasim Akram has come out and put his weight behind the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the T20 format. Both the players are stalwarts across formats and with a huge World Cup, both the players will play a key role.

Wasim Akram while speaking to SPORTSKEEDA said “T20 World Cup is just a few months away. I will pick both. They will be the main players for India, no doubt about it. You need a little bit of experience in T20. You cannot solely rely on young guys,”

Former Indian legend Gautam Gambhir had also called for the two to be picked in the T20 squad. Gambhir had said “They both need to get picked. They should be picked. And more importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma captain the side”

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli last played T20 Cricket for India one year ago. It was the semi-final loss to England during the T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide. Since then both the batters have given priority to ODI and Test Cricket.

Virat Kohli ended the ODI World Cup 2023 as the leading scorer with over 700 runs. the 35-year-old also scored his 50th ODI century for India going past Sachin Tendulkar. Rohit Sharma on the other hand scored the most runs by any skipper in ODI World Cup history.
