‘Mere khayal se aisa player world cricket mein nhi hai’ – Wasim Akram heaps praise on India skipper Rohit Sharma
Team India thrashed the Netherlands by 160 runs in their last and final clash of the league stage of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 12 at M. Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore. Rohit Sharma and Co. have posted a massive total of 410/8 in the given 50 overs, owing to the batting performance of the team. However, during the chase, the Dutch team were all bundled out for 250 runs.
Following the win, the Men in Blue have been getting praise from all corners of the world for their top-class performances on the league stage. Notably, former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram is one of them who hailed the Indian team along with skipper Rohit Sharma.
The legendary cricketer heaped praise on Rohit Sharma while saying that he didn’t witness someone like him who was damaging the bowlers in the powerplays and giving a great start for his side. Moreover, Akram has also talked about the partnership between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma that helped them post the huge total in the powerplays.
I don’t think there’s a player like Rohit Sharma in world cricket: Wasim Akram
The former right-arm pacer feels the 36-year-old skipper makes batting very easy and makes the bowlers aware of how lethal he is in the game. In addition, the well-known cricket commentator also praised the shots played by India’s opening batter, Rohit Sharma.
“Yeah, 410/4 in 50 overs, 61 by Rohit Sharma, Gill (Shubman) 51 off 32, they scored 91 in first 10 overs, the game was over then. I mean the way they played again. Rohit Sharma 61 off 54, 8 fours, 2 sixes, mera nahi khayal aisa player duniya cricket mein hai,” Wasim Akram said.
“(I don’t think there’s a player like him in world cricket). We talk about Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Kane Williamson, Babar Azam, but this guy is different. Because he makes batting look so easy, in any situation, against any bowling attack, bade araam se shots maarta hai (he hits shots effortlessly),” he added further.
