‘They have the weapons, merit, skills…….’ – Wasim Akram flabbergasted with Team India’s early ODI World Cup 2023 domination
Team India has won their fifth game of the ODI World Cup 2023, placing them in the top spot of the points table. Notably, the Men in Blue thrashed five-time world champions Australia on October 8 and beat Afghanistan in their second clash. Rohit Sharma and Co. registered a magnificent win over arch-rivals Pakistan before upsetting Bangladesh and New Zealand in the ongoing marquee event.
Following India’s magnificent back-to-back win in the ongoing tournament, a plethora of former cricketers and experts have started praising them. Notably, former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram is one of them who lauded Rohit Sharma-led India for remaining undefeated in five out of five games. The well-renowned cricket commentator feels Team India knows how to execute the plans, and that is what gives them success. Wasim Akram had called Team India to the runway whose brakes had failed.
“India is like that runaway train that has its brakes failed. They have the weapons, have the merit, the skills and most importantly they know how to execute their plans,” Wasim Akram said.
Team India made one change according to the situation: Wasim Akram
The legendary cricketer feels India used the right combinations for the game, according to pitch and conditions. The former left-arm pacer cited the example of using Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami in the absence of Hardik Pandya. Moreover, the 57-year-old cricketer also hails the New Zealand team for using the proper playing team against the hosts.
“They did one change according to the situation. Squads should be such, like India and New Zealand’s, that if anybody is injured or out of touch or you want to play someone according to opposition or pitch (then you have such resources available). Like India played Shami, Hardik was injured, they dropped Shardul (Thakur), and SKY (Suryakumar Yadav) was brought in as a new batter. Then Shami got a wicket off the first ball of his spell,” he added further.
