WATCH: Hanuma Vihari bats left-handed after being hit on wrist against Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Quarterfinal
Hanuma Vihari, the captain of Andhra Pradesh, was forced to leave the field in the first innings after being struck on the wrist by a frightening short delivery from Avesh Khan.
Avesh, one of India’s top domestic bowlers, looked in rhythm at the Holkar Stadium after deciding to bowl first on the pitch’s rather green appearance. Vihari was out for the day and maybe the Test match when his bouncer struck his glove. But, later after the fall of nine wickets, Vihar came into the crease and hit some boundaries while batting left-handed on Madhya Pradesh bowlers.

More info on Hanuma Vihari’s injury
The middle-order Indian batter, known for his spectacular innings against Australia in Sydney, tried to fight off the discomfort but was unable to continue. At that point, Vihari had reached 16 off of 37 balls. However, Andhra did well against Madhya Pradesh thanks in large part to Ricky Bhui, who led the way with 115 runs off 200 balls. He had help from middle-order batter Karan Shinde, who played a crucial knock as well.
The batter has not had a particularly strong season and is not likely to be called up soon by the Indian side. In the Edgbaston Test against England in July 2022, Vihari made his last appearance for Men in Blue. He was then benched for the Tests against Bangladesh and the following series against Australia.
“Vihari has opted for a sling for now and is waiting. If the team requires him, he would step out. It’s a proper fracture and he has been advised five-six weeks of rest,” an Andhra team official told. The 29-year-old’s season has been uneven so far, with 464 runs scored in 13 innings at an average of 38.66 and two fifty-sixes.
Andhra Pradesh scored 379 at the end of the first inning. Vihari was out leg before wicket at 27 off the end of the first session on Day 2, Andhra Pradesh is 379 for 9 after 127 overs. Vihari is playing on 27 runs off 57. Lalith Mohan remained unbeaten on 22 runs which includes 3 fours.
On the other hand for the Madhya Pradesh side, the pick of the bowler is Anubhav Aggarwal with four wickets. Kumar Kartikeya and Gourav Yadav grabbed two wickets each and Avesh snapped one wicket.
