Dhoni’s remarkable journey in International cricket

Dhoni’s journey to international cricket hasn’t been that easy. After working as Ticket Collector for almost one year. He finally got his maiden India call in 2004. However, his ODI debut was a forgettable one as he got run out on the very first ball of his international career. He still went on to struggle for the next few innings. At last, the young batter finally got his break when he scored his maiden ODI century against Pakistan after then-skipper Sourav Ganguly promoted him to bat number three.

MS Dhoni was first given the captaincy of the India team in the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup in 2007 after all senior players decided to back off. The newly appointed skipper lead the young and underdog Indian team to become the first-ever champions of the T20I tournament hosted in South Africa.

Four years later in 2011, Dhoni ended India’s 28-year-old wait for the major ODI World Cup trophy after he hit the winning six so that India can be World Champions again, and this time, in front of their home crowd. A couple of years later, Dhoni completed his collection of major international trophies after he led India to a victorious Champions trophy triumph in 2013.

Dhoni has already retired from international cricket as he announced this through post on Instagram on the 15th of August in 2020, having played his last international match during the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. However, he still continues to play for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and recently won the fifth title as captain in IPL 2023. However, he himself confirmed that he can come in to play in the next season of the tournament if his body allows.
