WATCH: Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur gets lucky as ball hit the stumps but bails stay intact

In the 10th match of the Women’s T20 League, the table toppers, the Mumbai franchise locked horns against the UP side at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, March 12. The Mumbai franchise won the game by eight wickets and Harmanpreet Kaur was awarded the Player of the Match for her brilliant performance with the bat.

The UP franchise skipper Alyssa Healy won the toss and elected to bat first. They brought back South Africa veteran pacer Shabnim Ismail in place of Grace Harris and the Mumbai side brought in Dhara Gujjar in place of star India all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar.

On the third ball of the 11th over in the second innings bowled by Anjali Sarvani to the Mumbai skipper, hit the leg stump, the lights blink but the bails didn’t fall. Everyone was shocked to see that. Healy almost started to celebrate but stopped in between as she saw that the stumps were there in his position only.

The Mumbai franchise clinch fourth consecutive victory

Mumbai chased down the target of 160 runs on the third ball of the 18th over with eight wickets in hand. The Mumbai openers, Yahtika Bhatia and Matthews, provided a solid start to their side. Both of them put together a partnership of 58 runs from 41 balls. But, both the batters were dismissed at a score of 58 runs in the gap of four balls. Bhatia was dismissed by Rajeshwari Gayakwad and Matthews was dismissed by Sophie Ecclestone.

Thanks to a 106-run partnership from 63 balls between Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt, Mumbai were able to chase the target. The Women in Blue skipper scored an unbeaten knock of 53 runs off 33 balls, which included nine fours and a six at a strike rate of over 160, while Sciver-Brunt played a supporting role to Kaur, scoring 45 runs off 31 balls with six boundaries and a six at a strike rate of over 145.

“Very happy with the performance. The way we are gelling together I think this is the best tournament so far. Thanks to Nat, she played really well. Because of her, I got some time to settle in and later play some shots. The way they were batting, we were a bit tense, but I knew one or two wickets could get momentum back into our favour. We were calculating how many overs were left and which bowlers to target, and that’s what cricket is all about. You gotta express yourself and pick your targets. We just need to keep doing the right things,” said Kaur in the post-match presentation.
