Watch: Rohit Sharma’s iconic expression at Australia’s unsuccessful DRS against Ravindra Jadeja goes viral
India ended the Day 2 of the first Test against Australia at 321/7 on stumps at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Friday, February 10. All-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (66*) and Axar Patel (52*) extended India’s lead to 144 runs after captain Rohit Sharma scored a century on the second day of the first Test.
Australia were in charge on the second day picking up the key wickets of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and debutant Suryakumar Yadav in quick succession, which put India in a spot at 168/5. Still, India had nine runs lead and five wickets in hand. However, Australian bowlers couldn’t help themselves to pick Rohit’s and Jadeja’s wickets which were very crucial for them.
Jadeja and Rohit added a 61-run partnership for the sixth wicket. In the 78th over of the innings, Todd Murphy and the visitors appealed for an LBW against the India all-rounder as they were very confident that it was a close call, but it was given not out by umpire Richard Illingworth.
The moment the review appeared on the big screen, Murphy, wicketkeeper Peter Handscomb, and Cummins wore highly dejected looks on their faces. The India captain, on the other hand, had a priceless expression on his face. As he shook his head, almost indicating to everyone that he, more than anyone else, was sure Jadeja was not out.

Rohit scored a stunning century from 171 balls, which was his ninth in the format. Achieving the triple-figure mark, he became the first Indian captain to score a ton in all formats of the game. The 35-year-old cricketer scored 120 off 212 balls before he was dismissed by Cummins in the 80th over. Cummins picked his first wicket as he sent his counterpart back to the shed.
Australia’s debutant Todd Murphy returned a five-wicket haul on the second day, but the visitors lacked support from other bowlers. On the opening day, Australia skipper Pat Cummins had won the toss and opted to bat first. India bundled out the tourists for 177, with Jadeja picking five and Ravichandran Ashwin picking three wickets.
