‘We don’t really do team meetings anymore………’ – Joe Root opens up on England’s ‘communication’ culture and style

English star cricketer Joe Root has recently revealed some new team plans regardless of the loss or the win in Test cricket. Notably, the Ben Stokes-led English side has departed for Abu Dhabi after their loss in the second Test match against India to enjoy their free time ahead of the third Test match slated to take place on February 15 in Rajkot. Team India won the second Test match and levelled up the series by 1-1.

However, Joe Root revealed that Ben Stokes-led side has opted for a new strategy, as they do not hold team meetings after the game and enjoy their leisure time by interacting with others. The 33-year-old cricketer says that their team does not have team meetings, and they all enjoy their time at the dinner table and the lunch table.

“We don’t really do team meetings anymore. That’s one of the great things about how we do all of our conversations away from the game and just that enjoyment and buzz about spending time with each other. We don’t have to sit in a meeting room. I think it’s more authentic and more genuine when you can have it around a dinner table. Having a coffee in the morning or whatever, I think that’s when you do your best learning,” Joe Root said on Jio Cinema.

It’s what’s given us success for a good period of time now: Joe Root

Joe Root says that they are going to play more aggressively in the upcoming Test match considering their loss in the second Test match. Moreover, the top-order batter recalled their last match, a one-off Test match, where England decisively chased down the total and beat India.

“Regardless of the result of the game, we’re always going to play how we know. It’s what’s given us success for a good period of time now. It’s what brings the best out of us. The last time we played India in England, in that one-off Test, we were miles behind in the game and we managed to chase that score down,” he added.
