‘We used to choke against India’ – Pakistani legend Waqar Younis’ big claim ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup

According to reports, arch-rivals India and Pakistan have been slated to face each other on October 14 for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Notably, during the T20 World Cup 2021, Pakistan thrashed India by 10 wickets. On top of that, this was their first World Cup victory against India. Furthermore, in the T20 World Cup 2022, the Men in Green once again lost the match against a Rohit Sharma-led side at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia. Moreover, India hasn’t yet lost to Pakistan in an ODI World Cup tournament since 1992.

There is a plethora of debate on which Asian Giants are going to win the match in the upcoming World Cup. Speaking on the same subject, former Pakistan cricketer Waqar Younis admitted that the Men in Green used to choke against India during the mega tournaments. Notably, the former pacer reveals that there was not much pressure on them at that time, but in today’s era, pressure is immense and has tripled.

“In our times, the pressure wasn’t that of a big concern as what it seems right now. The lesser you play against a team, that too against a big team – so whenever you’ll play them, especially if it is Pakistan and India, the pressure would be immense and tripled. Pressure is always high, but maybe in our times, it was comparatively lesser because we used to play lots of cricket in my early days. But then again, in World Cup, we used to choke against India,” Younis said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Furthermore, the right-arm fast bowler believes that the Babar Azam side will win the match against the Men in Blue. In addition, the former Pakistani coach has named a few players who can win the match single-handedly.

“We have match-winners, we have individuals that can win you matches single-handedly, including Babar himself, Shaheen – Fakhar can do wonders, then, of course, we have seen Imam playing great innings” he added further.
