‘When Virat was captain, bowling was complete & under MS Dhoni….’ – Former India pacer’s stunning remark on what makes Virat Kohli ‘the best’

It is undeniable that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni have been often compared for their captaincy, as the former has been counted as one of the most successful skipper after claiming all three major titles for India along with the most successful IPL franchise, whereas the latter hasn’t achieved the feat but taken Indian Test cricket to the epitome of the level during his captaincy. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former India cricketer Ishant Sharma draws comparisons between these two legendary cricketers.

Notably, the veteran off-pacer feels India’s stalwart Virat Kohli was the best captain. The right-arm pacer says the bowling unit was complete when Virat served as the skipper, whereas the bowlers were in the transition phase when they played under CSK skipper MS Dhoni. In addition, the 34-year-old cricketer also shared that MS Dhoni had identified everyone’s traits.

“He (Kohli) was the best. When Virat was captain, bowling was complete. When we were playing under Mahi bhai, we were in a transition phase. There is no match for Mahi bhai as a communicator. But what he did was groom the bowlers and leave them with Virat. So, he got a complete package. The best thing he did was identify everyone’s traits, that he used to talk about one thing with one person and then let them be,” Ishant Sharma said on Jio Cinema.

I realized Virat Kohli wanted all of us to think out of the box: Ishant Sharma

Moreover, the Delhi-born cricketer heaped praise on India’s star cricketer, Virat Kohli, and opened up about his aggressive nature on the field. Furthermore, the Delhi Capitals bowler revealed that the RCB opener has given every player their own defined role and pushed them to think out of the box to excel in the game.

“First thing, he was aggressive. If you’re bowling with the new ball, you can concede 25 runs in five overs as long as you take two wickets. The important thing was that he gave everyone defined roles. After 2021, I realized he wanted all of us to think out of the box,” he added further.
