WTC 2025: Team India jump to top of table after thumping win over South Africa in Cape Town
Team India stormed back to the top of the World Test Championships on Thursday. At the end of the centurion Test India had slid down the table. After the seven-wicket win on Thursday, Rohit Sharma finds his team back at the top.
South Africa despite the huge loss is still second in the table, with New Zealand in third place. Current World Test Championship holder Australia is in fourth place having played the most games during this cycle.
Pakistan who lost the series to Australia recently is sixth in the table below Bangladesh. West Indies, England, and Sri Lanka complete the table with Sri Lanka and West Indies yet to win a Test match.
India set to host England as the number 1 side –
Rohit Sharma was a happy camper as there was a double boost on Thursday. The win in Cape Town not only leveled the series but also helped India go top of the WTC Table. It was a sharp turn in fortunes after India had lost the Centurion Test inside three days.
Team India will next take on Ben Stokes and his England side for a five-match Test series. The next test series will be against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home followed by a grueling tour of Australia.
South Africa are second in the table with 12 points from two games with two more tests against New Zealand. Neil Brand has been appointed the skipper of the side as the senior players will be busy with the SA20 League.
Current holders Australia have played 7 Test matches and have 42 points to be placed in the 4th place. Pat Cummins and his side will play two Tests each against West Indies and New Zealand next. Pakistan and Bangladesh meanwhile do not have any Test assignments for the foreseeable future.
West Indies will tour England in July for a three-test series in July. After the Caribbean teams’ visit, England will host Sri Lanka for a three-match series in August and September.
As the World Test Championships games keep coming, each side is doing their best to finish top two in the table. New Zealand and Australia have won the first two titles beating India on each occasion. Lord’s will play host to the finals as two teams view for the prestigious title in Test Cricket history.
