Team India resumed their innings on Day 3 at 321 for 7 with bowling all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel at the crease. They both together built up a partnership of 88 runs for the eighth wicket. Jadeja scored 70 runs which included 7 boundaries and Axar scored 84 runs, including included 10 fours and a six.
India, as a result, posted 400 runs before getting bundled out and, hence, took a lead of 223 runs. For Australia, the pick of the bowlers was debutant Todd Murphy, who snapped seven wickets in his spell of 47 overs at an economy of just 2.60. The veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon took one wicket, while Australia skipper Pat Cummins grabbed two.
While batting during their second inning, Australia didn’t have the start they wanted as they lost the first five wickets of openers David Warner, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschange, Matt Renshaw, and Peter Handscomb at just the score of 52 in 17 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja awarded Player of the Match for his all-around performance
The visitors were bundled out for a score of just 91 runs and they lost the match by an inning and 132 runs. For Men in Blue, the pick of the bowlers was veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who took a fifer in his spell of 12 overs with three maiden overs and conceded just 37 runs at an economy of 3.1.
Jadeja and right-arm seamer Mohammed Shami grabbed two wickets each in their spell of 12 overs and 4.3 overs, respectively. Axar also snapped one wicket in the innings by giving away just 6 runs in the three overs he bowled.
Jadeja was awarded the Player of the Match award for his all-around performance in the match. He took a fifer in the first innings and two wickets during Australia’s second innings. He also scored crucial runs as well, stitching a viral partnership with Axar Patel for the team when it needed the most.
