‘Ye bhedbhav kyu hai yaha’ – Fans fume at Indian Cricket Board’s decision seeking media rights only for Men’s cricket
According to the sources, the Indian Cricket Board is providing free tickets to viewers for Indian women’s cricket matches as well as free media rights. Notably, the organization is only seeking media rights for the men’s tournament. Moreover, it is undeniable that the popularity of women’s cricket has grown so much compared to the past couple of years, but the Indian Cricket Board has not broken this trend of selling media rights free of charge.
Notably, the first Women’s Premier League broadcast rights were sold by the organization for a whopping Rs 951 crore. In addition, the WPL has grown into the largest women’s team sports league event in the world as a consequence of this.
The ITT, regarded as the Holy Grail of media rights tenders, mentions, “The term ‘Other Series’ shall also include Women’s International Matches.”
“Additionally, the ‘other series’ shall encompass (i) cricket matches organized by BCCI and played in India between men’s A teams, Women’s International matches, women’s teams, and all age group teams (men and women) of India and any other country/territory, along with warm-up/practice matches organized by BCCI for such teams from any other country/territory; (ii) practice/warm-up cricket matches organized by BCCI and played in India by a Visiting Team prior to any international series; and (iii) any other List ‘A’ cricket matches, as may be advised by BCCI from time to time,” read the 150-page ITT as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Viacom 18 to obtain rights for upcoming Ireland tour
Meanwhile, according to the sources, the broadcast rights for the upcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup are with Star Sports. Notably, Star Sports has gained television rights, whereas Disney+Hotstar has acquired digital rights for an upcoming mega tournament.
In addition, Viacom (Sports 18) has acquired the television rights, whereas Jio Cinema has obtained the digital rights for the upcoming Ireland tour, which is all set to be led by India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and commences on August 18.

Can you blame them, Women cricket lacks not just funds but viewers as well. You cannot expect ridiculous amount paid against a women cricket series.

It's disappointing to see such a discrepancy in valuing men's and women's games. Both deserve fair recognition and compensation for their contributions to the sport.
