‘Ye toh hona hi tha’ – Fans react as Bangalore players look upset after losing five consecutive matches in Women’s T20 League
In the 11th match of the Women’s T20 League, the Delhi franchise locked horns against the struggling Bangalore side at the DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai on Monday, March 13. Delhi won the match by six wickets and star Australia all-rounder Jess Jonassen was awarded the Player of the Match award. After the match, players like Smriti Mandhana, and Elyse Perry were seen crying after their side lost the fifth consecutive fixture in the inaugural season of the Women’s T20 League.
As for the match, Delhi’s skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Delhi franchise brought back Alice Capsey and Arundhati Reddy in place of Laura Harris and Minnu Mani, respectively, whereas the Bangalore team made four changes. They included Disha Kasat, Megan Schutt, Asha Shobana and Preeti Bose in place of Kanika Ahuja, Erin Burns, Komal Zanzad and Sahana Pawar, respectively.
Batting first, Bangalore skipper Mandha was dismissed early once again. She was able to score only 8 runs before getting dismissed. After that, the star foreign all-rounders, Perry and Sophie Devine steadied the innings. The Australian all-rounder went on to score unbeaten 67 runs in 52 balls she faced in the innings, which included four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of around 129.

Devine, before getting dismissed, scored 21 runs off 19 balls with three fours. Star India wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh played a quickfire knock. She scored 37 runs in 16 balls at a strike rate of above 231, which included three fours and three sixes each. At the end of the first innings, Bangalore scored 150 runs with a loss of four wickets.
While chasing the target of 151 runs, Delhi lost the wicket of Shefali Verma on the second ball of the innings. At number three, Alice Capsey played a solid 38-run innings off 24 balls, including 8 fours. The Delhi-based team, however, experienced a severe setback when Meg Lanning departed in the ninth over, and the team’s score at that time was 70 runs for the loss of three wickets.
After that, Jemimah Rodrigues put up an excellent batting performance by scoring 32 runs off 28 balls, including three fours. The game was on the line when Rodrigues top-edged a sweep and was caught behind, but Kapp and Jonassen handled the situation calmly and guided their team to victory by six wickets.
