‘Yorker ka koi todd nhi’ – Fans react as Sandeep Sharma denies MS Dhoni to take CSK home against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023

After defeating the last match by seven wickets against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locked horns against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai.

CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl. Batting first, the Rajasthan side scored 175 runs for the loss of eight wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for them was Jos Buttler, who scored 52 runs off 36 balls with three sixes and a four. India’s youngster Devdutt Paddikal scored 38 runs from 26 balls with five fours.

For the hosts, the pick of the bowler was Akash Singh, Tushar Deshpande and Ravindra Jadeja, who snapped two wickets each in their respective spells. Akash conceded 40 runs in his spell of four overs, Deshpande conceded 37 runs in his four overs, and Jadeja conceded 21 runs in his four overs.

I feel I am able to get a good grip and drop on the ball at the right lengths: Ravichandran Ashwin

While chasing a target of 176 runs, CSK fell short by three runs. The highest scorer for the Chennai side was Devon Conway, who scored 50 runs from 38 balls with six fours. Dhoni and Jadeja also contributed runs but that was not enough. Dhoni scored 32 runs off 17 balls with three sixes and a four and Jadeja scored 25 runs from 15 balls with two sixes and a four.

“I surprise people I guess. Whenever I walk out to bat, people assume I just took that decision and came out, but that’s a role given to me, we lost Sanju and I had to do a job. I am far better at judging my strengths, I take a few balls to get going. Every batting innings, I am padded up from the start. It’s not an easy thing but it is good,” Ashwin was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation

“I came off with good Test form. I feel I am able to get a good grip and drop on the ball at the right lengths. If I was not able to do those things in the two years (with Punjab Kings) then I wouldn’t be able to do it here. Success or failure, it has to be on my own terms,” he added.
