‘You cannot win World Cups all the time’ – Sourav Ganguly on India’s World Cup-winning chances

Rohit Sharma and Co. are gearing up to win the title of the upcoming ODI World Cup, commencing on October 5 in India. Notably, Team India last won the World Cup in 2011 as the hosts for the first time. Notably, a plethora of fans and experts believe that the Men in Blue are strong contenders to clinch the title again on their home soil. Meanwhile, speaking on the same subject, former India cricketer turned analyst Sourav Ganguly believes the Men in Blue need to play well to win the title at home.

Notably, the former Indian Cricket Board President feels one cannot win the World Cup all the time; there will be gaps as well as bad times. In addition, the former India skipper says every tournament is different, whether it is the Asia Cup, the World Cup, or a home series with Pat Cummins’ side; it just all depends on how one plays at that tournament.

You cannot win World Cups all the time: Sourav Ganguly

“You cannot win World Cups all the time, there will be bad times, there will be gaps. They will have to bat very well, if they bat well they will win. The World Cup is different, Asia Cup is different and the Australia home series is different. Every tournament depends on how they play that particular moment. India are a strong side; but they have to play well during the World Cup,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Moreover, the legendary cricketer has also talked about the omission of leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal from the Asia Cup squad. In addition, the cricket commentator feels that star all-rounder Axar Patel is ahead of Yuzvendra Chahal owing to his great batting skills. Furthermore, the 51-year-old cricketer believes Chahal can comeback if any spinner gets injured.

“They have picked Axar Patel ahead of Chahal because of his batting. So I think it’s a good selection. Chahal can still come back if someone gets injured. This is a 17-member squad, two, in any case, will have to move out,” he added further. Meanwhile, Team India will be next seen in action during the Asia Cup, commencing on August 30.
