‘It’s time to take revenge of 2003 final’ – Fans react as Pat Cummins is ready to embrace challenge of playing ODI World Cup 2023 final vs India in front of one-sided crowd
The five-time world champions, Australia, have placed themselves in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 with great style. Notably, Pat Cummins and Co. defeated strong South Africa in their second semi-final clash by three wickets on November 16 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and placed themselves magnificently in the final of the marquee event.
Following the win, Australia’s skipper, Pat Cummins, expressed his happiness. Moreover, the fast bowler reveals that they were nervous when they were losing the crucial wickets in the game. The 30-year-old cricketer was thrilled that they managed to get the win despite losing the toss, and their side was reluctant to bowl first in the innings.
“I think it was easier out there than sitting in the dugout. Nerve-wracking couple of hours but it was good to get the result. Wasn’t expecting Starc and Hazlewood to bowl so much early. We knew it was going to spin later on but there was a bit of cloud cover so wasn’t too disappointed about bowling first. Talk a lot about our fielding, probably wasn’t up to standard at the start of the tournament but we were fantastic today,” Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation.
We are very happy as a unit, can’t wait to play final against India: Pat Cummins
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins has also opened up about his emotions about playing against India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, slated to take place on November 19 at the iconic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. The South Wales-born cricketer accepted that the match crowd will be one-sided, as over one lakh people will be supporting the hosts in the world’s largest cricket stadium.
“Few of us have played in a final before, couple of other guys in a T20 WC final, the stadium is going to be packed, mostly going to be one-sided but it’s about embracing it. 2015 World Cup was a career highlight, so to be playing another final in India, we are very happy as a unit, can’t wait,” he added further.
