‘Will Shami’s absence make a difference?’ – Aakash Chopra opines on Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack ahead of IPL 2024

Former India batter, Aakash Chopra talked about the Gujarat Team and their bowling attack in his recent YouTube video. As Mohammed Shami is out of the IPL, Rashid Khan’s return to cricket is still not confirmed. He was injured during the ODI World Cup 2023 and hasn’t played any form of cricket ever since. Speaking about the team combination, Chopra said, Rashid might be back to the team before the IPL and GT will also have Noor Ahmed with them. But the question remains, will GT miss Shami?

Aakash Chopra, on his YouTube channel, said, “Gujarat have a ‘Karamati’ Khan named Rashid Khan. He is absolutely outstanding. His injury would be fine by the time IPL comes. Then they have a bowler named Noor Ahmad. Both of them play in the XI for sure these days. However, will Shami’s absence make a difference? Will they not be able to play two overseas spinners because of Hardik leaving? It is going to be a slight toss-up. They might have to compromise a spinner.”

After Hardik Pandya’s transfer to the Mumbai Indians, GT has appointed Shubman Gill as their new captain. The entire team is filled with inexperienced youngsters. Nevertheless, GT has players like Kane Williamson and David Miller who will add experience to the team and also help Shubman throughout the tournament.

Devon Conway set to miss IPL 2024 until May

Devon Conway, CSK’s one of the best openers, will be missing the IPL 2024 due to a thumb injury. He hasn’t been ruled out of the IPL yet, however, his surgery and recovery might take around 8 weeks. So till May, he wouldn’t be able to play cricket. After Faf du Plessis, Conway handled the opening department with ease.

CSK’s IPL 2023 win was possible because of Conway’s batting brilliance and his partnerships with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Thus, in his absence, MSD will have to look for an opener who will carry the team just the way Conway did. They are the defending champions and will look forward to defending their title since it might be Dhoni’s last IPL.
