‘Dhaga kholke rakh diya’ – Fans react as Harry Brook scores maiden Indian Premier League ton against Kolkata Knight Riders

After winning the last match on the last ball against the defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are locking horns against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. KKR skipper Nitish Rana won the toss and elected to ball first.

While batting first, the visitors scored a mammoth total of 228 runs with the loss of only four wickets after the completion of the first innings. The highest scorer for the side was England‘s star batter, Harry Brook who played an unbeaten knock of 100 runs from just 55 balls which included 12 fours and three sixes in his innings.

I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage: Harry Brook

SRH skipper, Aiden Markram supported Brook and scored 50 runs off just 26 balls which included two fours and five sixes in his innings. Youngster Abhishek Sharma also scored important 32 runs from 17 balls with three fours and two sixes in his innings. In the end, South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Heinrick Klaasen played a quickfire knock of 16 runs from six balls which included two fours and a six.

For the KKR side, the pick of the bowler was star West Indian all-rounder, Andre Russell who snapped three wickets in his spell of 2.1 overs where he conceded 22 runs in his spell. One wicket was grabbed by India’s mystery spinner, Varun Chakaravarthy in his spell of four overs where he conceded 41 runs in his spell of four overs.

“I’ve had a bit of trouble with spin, but I wanted to use the powerplay to my advantage. So middle overs wanted to rotate strikes and let the other boys do the hitting. It is a belter of a pitch, we need to bowl our lengths rightly and take wickets. We still got a job to do. My girlfriend is here but the rest of my family have just left, I’m sure they’ll all be very happy for me,” Brook was quoted as saying in the mid-innings interview.
